Harvest Timber: This custom conference table is made from rough-sawn reclaimed timbers.
The boards and timbers were specifically chosen for the large saw mill marks, the rough textures and the weathered grey tones.
If I was still in advertising the creative brief for this project would have read something like XL, BEEFY, THICK, HEAVY with a finish that looks like leather. It’s certainly the type of table you can sit down at to make considerable decisions. This over-sized harvest style table is meant to have a significant presence and it certainly will dominate the room it is meant for.
The patina’d finish was bolstered with a secret solution to darken and enrich the subtle brown undertones and warmth of the material. The matte finish consists of multiple glazes of tinted varnish so that the depth of colour is deep and rich. With each additional layer the darker stain settles into the saw marks accentuating every beautiful “flaw” in the wood.
As an added request from the client, a hidden hatch was integrated into the table to house electrical and I/O ports for data, audio and video.
There is a channel cut in one of the legs to run conduit for the cables and the hatch opens with a push of the finger. The door of the hidden hatch was cut from the table once is was almost complete so there is no variance in stain, grain or saw marks so it blends in really well except for a subtle outline of where it is hidden.
